On 4 March 2014, Senator Claire Moore delivered a speech in the Senate that recognised the hard work of the members of ALAS and the importance of using the first anniversary of the National Apology as an opportunity to acknowledge the horrors that occurred to women and their children under forced adoption.

Senator Moore was a member of the Community Affairs References Committee’s inquiry into former forced adoption policies and practices. ALAS has had many meetings with Senator Moore to advocate for the people affected by forced adoptions and we are very pleased to have been mentioned in the Senator’s speech.

Professor Ian Jones was instrumental in organising the apology for forced adoptions from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital; ALAS is glad that Senator Moore has publicly recognised his important role.

Please see the link to the extract from Hansard where you can read the Senator’s speech.
