Giving birth

You are here

I was dropped at the hospital by my sister after being in labour all night on my own not wanting to wake anyone. Eventually they took me to delivery that night and gave birth with great difficulty as she was facing the wrong way. I wasn't really conscious in the end so I didn't see her, but was told it was a girl as the nurse thought I was married due to the fake ring I wore to stop people staring.

I went into a public ward with other mothers and babies. Someone asked where my baby was but I can’t remember my response, just kept to myself.

Because I had a temperature they couldn't move me for a couple of days, then they moved me to a small annex in a room on my own, thankfully.

When my milk came in they bound me. I think I just went through the motions and did what I had to as I was used to taking responsibility for myself.

I was never informed there was help of any kind to help me keep my baby which I would have done in a heartbeat, which is why I consider my relinquishing her to be forced. That is what I want my child to know who doesn't wish to have contact with me.
