DRUGS USED ON MOTHERS

You are here

Mothers were often given drugs after the birth of their baby to silence them, to make them more compliant and to erase the memory of the birth of their child. These mind altering, psychotropic drugs had been used in North Sydneys Chelmsford Private Hospitals, deep sleep therapy, between 1963 - 1979 with dire consequences, a high suicide rate, and even deaths whilst being administered these drugs. It was one of the greatest medical scandals in Australia's history.
Quite often mothers signed adoption papers under their influence. Electric shock therapy was also used on mothers who were grieving after the loss of their baby.

Many mothers developed serious mental health damage because of these drugs. Identity crisis, severe depression, and split personalities.

MOTHERS WERE THE SOLE LEGAL GUARDIAN OF THEIR BABIES UNTIL THEY SIGNED THE ADOPTION PAPERS, SO THEREFORE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE TREATED JUST THE SAME AS EVERY OTHER MOTHER IN THAT HOSPITAL. THAT IS WHAT MAKES THESE ADOPTIONS ILLEGAL. DOCTORS AND NURSES DIDN'T GIVE MARRIED MOTHERS THESE DRUGS.
