Frustrated by the lack of action, in a confidential letter to Victoria’s Chief Secretary in July 1951, the Federal MP asks for the American doctor, and an operator of the notorious Avonhurst Private Hospital, to be investigated. Victoria Police again report, this time in a confidential letter to the Undersecretary. They state that an investigation of adoption records can only occur with permission of a Supreme Court judge, and with that advice the investigating officers state they have exhausted their inquiries and terminated their investigations. However the pressure begins to tell and by November 1956, the infamous Avonhurst Private Hospital has changed hands. And by 1965 it has closed altogether and a large motel erected on this highly desirable site overlooking Albert Park Lake.
